Found in Antioquia, Cauca and Santander departments of Colombia and Ecuador at elevations of 1200 to 4000 meters as a medium to large sized, warm to cold growing terrestrial with a fasciculate, fleshy, shortly lanose stem carrying 3 to 5, erect-patent, lanceolate to elliptic, acuminate, glabrous, gradually narrowing into the narrow petiolate base leaves that blooms on an erect, peduncle 16.4" to 20.8" [41 to 52 cm] long, glandular, denselr towards the apex, rachis 5.6 to 7.2" [14 to 18 cm] long, subdensely many flowered inflorescence with erect-patent, oblong-lanceolate, acute, shorter to a bit longer tha the ovary floral bracts and carrying small flowers with the sepals basally sparsely glandular becoming glabrous above.
G hetearioides can be distinguished by the sparsely flowered inflorescence, the floral bract longer than the ovary, almost glabrous sepals, petals ciliolate along the margins and the rounded lateral lobes of the lip." Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2019
