Found in Cundinamarca, Norte de Santander and Risaralda departments of Colombia in subparamo and cloud forests at elevations around 2900 to 3800 meters as a large sized, cold growing terrestrial with 3 basal and 1 cauline, oblong-lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, acute, tapering towards the elongate petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall and winter on a terminal, erect, with several glabrous below, glandular above bracts, to 25.6" [64 cm] long, rachis to 2.4" [6 cm] long, cylindrical, densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acute, pubescent, more than twice as ling as the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally pubescent flowers especially near the base.
" Similar to Gomphichis goodyeroides but G slamancae has elliptic to oblong-ellitptic, sessile petals with a broad base and a lip with a massive cushion-like thickening on the apical half which is sulcate in front, and a gynostemium ciliate on both surfaces. Anotrher similar species is Gomphichis pseudogoodyeroides but the lip epichile with a massive cushion-like thickening on the apical half which is sulcate in front separates it from G pseudogoodyeroides which has a prominent furrowe that runs along the midvein."
