Common Name Tracey's Gomphichis [Mrs Tracy, original collector of species 1900's]

Found in Venezuela, Norte de Santander Cundinamarca, Cauca and Valle de Cauca departments of Colombia and Carchi province of Ecuador in paramo around 3500 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with 5 to 6, basal, rosulate, oblong-obovate, acute to abruptly acuminate, sessile leaves that blooms in the fall on a terminal, erect, peduncle to 20" [50 cm] long, enveloped almost completely by chlorophyll-bearing sheaths grading smaller above, rachis to 4" [10 cm] long, cylindric, densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate to ovate-lanceolate, concave, acute, sparsely pubescent, somewhat longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying more or less fleshy, greenish white flowers.
