Found in Minas Gerais state of Brazil in limestone outcrops, under full sun, in soil patches accumulated at the base of buches or small pockets of earth between rocks at elevations around 750 meters as a medium to just large sized, warm growing terrestrial with an ellipsoid tuber giving rise to an erect, leaf stem carrying 4 to 6, spirally-alternate, lanceolate, membranaceous, the largest concentrated in the middle of the stem, reducing towards the apex of the stem, base sheathing, sheath closed, blade patent, apex acute leaves that blooms in the late spring on an erect, terminal, 4 to 5.2" [10 to 13 cm] long, spiral, 8 to 14 flowered inflorescence with green, ovate to lanceolate, apex acuminate, as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying green, glabrous flowers

"Similar in general morphology to some species in the Habenaria repens complex, but differs from these and all other Neotropical species of the genus for growing on limestone outcrops, under full sun, associated with saxicolous plants, and by the combination of the following characters: leaves not pleated, pedicellate ovary .76" to 1" [19 to 25 mm] long, petal anterior segment about the same length as the posterior segment (ratio .36 to .48" [0.9–1.2]), lip lateral segment about the same length as the median segment (ratio .36 to .4" [0.9–1.0]), spur .64 to .76" [16 to 19 mm] long, and rostellum mid lobe apex acute and erect."
