Found in the Bismark Archipelago, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu on muddy stream banks, in rainforest and in lower montane forest in leaf litter at elevations around 70 to 1200 meters as a medium to large sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with an erect, with several sheaths in the lower half, leafy in the middle part stem carrying green tinged with purple, apical rosette, 6 to 7, ovate-lanceolate basally clasping leaves that blooms in the fall on an erect, terminal, to 16" [40 cm] long, 12 to 18 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, a bit more than hlalf as long as the ovary bracts and carrying whitish green, greenish yellow to green flowers.

"Habenaria novae-hiberniae is similar to H. trichaete. Unlike the latter, however, it has narrow leaves (up to1" [2.5 cm]), pedicellate ovary about twice longer than floral bracts and the lip lateral lobes about twice longer than the middle one." Kolanowska etal 2021
