"Similar to H bractescens, H fastor, H gourlieana, H johanennsis, H longicaudata, and H macronectar however it is distinct from all these species. H pabstii has a shorter, forward arched, free spur, and shorter noninvolute stigma which are closely parellel forming a single, receptive surface turned uo and frontward. All the others have pendent spurs which are completely or partially enclosed by the bracts which are longer than the ovary and pedicel, ranging from nearly 1.6 to 6" [4 to 15 cm] long and to 10" [25 cm] long in H longicaudata. Also thir stigmas are always longer, separated and only in contact at the apex, the margins are involute and rolled in spirally on each side and the receptive surface at the apex is mostly turned to the sides."
