Found in Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines in thickets, bamboo forests and broad leaved evergreen forests at elevations of 300 to 1100 meters as a medium sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with ellipsoid tubers giving rise to an erect, glabrous stem enveloped by several tubular sheaths below and 7 to 12, above, oblong-lanceolate, to oblanceolate, herbaceous, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the fall on a terminal, erect, 6 to 18" [15 to 40 cm] long, densely 10 to 40 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, long-acuminate, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.
