Found in Goias and southwestern Minas Gerais states of Brazil as a terrestrial with erect, stiff, linear, conduplicate leaves taht blooms in the summer on an erect, terminal, several to many flowered inflorescence .
"H. psammophila is distinguished by erect, hard, non-membranaceous, conduplicate, patent and separated leaves from the stem along almost its entire extension. Similar to H cultellifolia, however, the two species differ by ovary and pedicel length .28 to .44" versus .56 to .76" (7 to 11 mm vs. 14 to 19 mm length in H. cultellifolia) and calcar length .12 to .18" versus .4 to .6" (3 to 4.5 mm vs. 10 to 15 mm length)."
