Found in Pichincha province of Ecuador in pastures at elevations above 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial with fleshy, fasciculate roots giving rise to 3 to 4, gathered in a basal rosette, ovate-lanceolate, acute to acuminate, thin, delicate, narrowing below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late winter on an erect, peduncle to 3.2" [8 cm] long, provided with 2, longer than the internodes, acuminate, adnate, herbaceous, glabrous sheathing bracts, rachis .88" [2.2 cm] long, laxly 5 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, long-acuminate, herbaceous, glabrous, twice as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying small, tubular, non-resupinate flowers
"The new species is somewhat similar to Hapalorchis pumila, from which it is easily distinguished by the non-resupinate flowers, the glandular apex of the ovary and base of sepals. The proportions of the lip are also different in the two species. Additionally, the epichile of H. pumilus is irregularly crenated, but entire in H. neglecta." Szlach. & Rutk. 2009
