Found in Yunnan province of China on limestone at elevations of 1600 to 1700 meters as a small to just medium sized, cool growing litho-terrestrial with oblong-ellipsoid, fleshy tubers giving rise to an erect, smooth stem provided witha basal sheath and 3 basal, lanceolate, 7 veined, acuminate, contracted below into the amplexicaul sheath leaf that blooms in the late summer and early fall on an erect, 8 to 10" [20 to 25 cm] long, provided with 2 to 3, lanceolate, acuminate peduncle-scales, laxly to 50 flowered inflorescence elliptic, glabrous, apex acuminate, longer than pedicel and ovary floral bracts and carrying yellowish green flowers.
"Heminium lijiangense is closely related to H. elisabethae (Duthie) Tang & F.T. Wang and H. mannii (Rchb.f.) Tang & F.T. Wang, but differs in having up to 50 flowers laxly along the rachis, floral bracts longer than pedicel and ovary, dorsal sepal ovate-orbicular, petals falcate-lanceolate, lip mid-lobe distinctly shorter than lateral lobes, spur clavate and 4.5–6.5 mm long."
