" This species is similar to the Costa Rican M curvatus but it has flowers with an obovate-elliptic (not oblong-ligulate) dorsal sepal, a broadly obovate (not rhombic) labellum hypochile, and a longer .011" versus .076 to .08" [2.75 vs. 1.9 to 2 mm] column." Ormerod 2008

"M bugabae is also somewhat similar to Microchilus crispifolius and Microchilus sytsmae In contrast to M crispifolius the leaf margins of M bugabae are wavy versus crispate and the lip is broadly obovate versus suborbicular to transversely elliptic. M systamae has much smaller flowers with a prominently shorter spur than M bugabae." Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2017
