Common Name The Cajamarca Microchilus [A Department of Peru]

Found in Cajamarca department of Peru at elevations of 2500 to 2800 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with an erect, terete, new stems arising 4 to 5 nodes up on old stem and carrying 5 to 6, obliquely ovate-lanceolate, acute, margins crisped, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter on a pubescent, 13.52 to 14.72" [33.8 to 36.8 cm] long overall, peduncle 10.12 to 11.68" [25.3 to 29.2 cm] long, provided with 5 to 7 sheathing bracts, rachis 3.04 to 3.4" [7.6 to 8.5 cm] long, several? flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acute, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally laxly to sparsely pubescent, green flowers.

"This species is most similar to the Ecuadorian M crispifolius but it has flowers with pubescent, not glabrous sepals, a broadly obovate-elliptic, not oblong-oblanceolate dorsal sepal, and a shorter .076 to .08" versus .11 to .16" (1.9 to 2 vs. 2.75 to 4 mm) column. The Peruvian M. simplex is also similar to M. cajamarcae but it has larger flowers, dorsal sepal .22 to .3" versus .16" [5.5 to 7 vs. 4 mm long], a longer .16 to .2" versus .12" (4 to 5 vs. 3 mm) spur, and a longer .2 versus .076 to .08" [5 vs. 1.9 to 2 mm] column."
