Found in Minas Gerais state of Brazil in mountainous region of Diamantina near Velloziaceae bushes at elevations around 1200 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing, caespitose lithophyte with a inconspicuous rhizome giving rise to 2 noded, oval-elongate pseudobulbs enveloped by papery, deciduous sheaths and carrying a single, elliptic-elongate, acute, inclined, smooth, conduplicate base leaf that blooms in the winter on a terminal, arising through a spathe, 2, basal tubular acute bracts and a shorter one above, 2.4" [6 cm] long, successivevly single, 2 to 3 flowered inflorescence with a tubular, short, acute floral bract and carrying resupinate flowers.

Similar to L kettieana Pabst but the new species differs in the larger pseudobulbs, longer leaves, longer inflorescence, shorter ovary, slightly smaller flowers, a smaller gynostem, median lobes of the lip as long as the width of the lateral lobes, purple tepals, lateral lobes of the lip purple, center of the lip is yellow.
