Common Name Mittelstaedt's Lepanthes 's Ponthieva [Guatemalan collector of the type current]

Found in Guatemala at elevations around 2200 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with eret ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 4, microscopically dentate lepanthiform sheaths with dilate, acuminate ostia and carrying a single, apical, erect, elliptic, acute, tridentate, the central lobe longest, narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter on 1 to 2, peduncle .2 to .4" [.5 to 1 cm] long, usually shorter than the leaf, rachis 1 to 1.2" [2.5 to 3 cm] long, loose, distichous, lightly flexuous, successively single, several flowered inflorescence with shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.

"Characerized by the cup-shaped flowers borne successively by a loose, several flowered raceme that eventually nears the apex of the leaf. The sepals are bbroad, the dorsal sepal deep[ly concave, the laterals more or less recurved with approximate apices. The petals are proportionally small and transversely bilobed. The blades of the lip are cuneate into a narrow body fully unioted tothe undersurface of the column near the middle, so that the appendix is located on the external surface." Luer & Behar 1990
