Full Shade Cold Spring

Common Name Orodonez's Lepanthes [Guatemalan Collector of the type species current]

Flower Size .16" [4 mm]

Found in Guatemala at elevations around 2700 meters as a miniature to small sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with filiform ramicauls enveloped by brown, microscopically dentate lepanthiform sheaths with dilated ostia and carrying a single, apical, erect, orbicular-elliptic, green sometimes tinged with rose, tridentate, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on a 1.2 to 4" [3 to 10 cm] long, successively single, few flowered inflorescence enveloped basally by floral bracts.

"Characterized by a sub-lax, successively flowering inflorescence that eventually far surpasses the leaf. The lef is elliptical and thickly coriaceous and lightly convex. The sepals are ovate and acute. The petals are transversely ovlong, longer than any one of the sepals, with the 2 lobes about equal in opposite directions. The small, ovate blades of the lip are glabrous, and the appendix is small and pubescent. Most similar to L geniculata but the racemes of that species are more densely flowered after the first few flowers, the petals are much shorter in proportion to the sepals, the sinus protrudes beneath the column and the column is proportionally large and stout with an apical stigma. Also similar to L pachyphylla but itis distinguished by the thick, mpre or less concave leaves, a distantly flowered raceme and proportionally shorter pewtals." Luer 1997
