Common Name Brass's Liparis [L J Brass American Orchid Collector in New Guinea 1900']

Found in western New Guinea in forest undergrowth on river flats at elevations around 100 meters as a medium sized, hot growing terrestrial with a short, terete rhizome enveloped by cataphyls and giving rise to subcylindric pseudobulbs enveloped basally by a lanceolate, acute sheath and carrying [3 to 4?], erect, thin, linear-ligulate, strongly 2 veined beneath, acute leaves that blooms in the later spring on a narrowly winged, peduncle 7.6 to 12.4" [19 to 31 cm] long, provided with 5 to 6 lax sheathing bracts, rachis 6.4 to 12.6" [16.0 to 31.5 cm] long, laxly 20 to 25 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute, shorter than the opary floral bracts.

"Liparis brassii is similar to to Liparis cymbidiifolia in the lip being wider than long and having a retuse callus. It differs in the longer sepals and larger labellum. Liparis caricifolia is similar to Liparis brassii in the size of the flowers and shape of the labellum but differs in the erect, thinly fleshy, obtuse labellum callus which In L. brassii is prostrate, much fleshier and retuse."
