Found in the Districto Federal of Brazil at elevations around 1000 meters as a miniature to small sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with an erect, terete stem carrying 4 to 7, lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, acute to subacuminate, occasionally with a paler median stripe, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter on an erect, terminal, pubescent, 6.36" to 8.08" [15.9 to 20.2 cm] long; peduncle 3.4 to 4.52" [8.4 to 11.3 cm] long, provided with 2 to 3, lax, lowest one sometimes subfoliose, sheathing bracts, rachis 2.08 to 3.44" [5.2- to 8.9 cm] long, sublaxly, many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate to rhombic-lanceolate, sub-acuminate longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally pubescent, flowers of unknown colors.

"M federalensis differs from Microchilus arietinus in having larger .24 to .26" versus .11 to 2.16" (6 to 6.5 vs. 4.4 to 5.4 mm long) sepals, a longer .18 to .12" (4.2 vs. 3 mm) spur, a longer .152 to .16" versus .092 to .1" (3.8 to 4 vs. 2.3 to 2.5 mm), thicker hypochile, slightly wider .3 versus .12 to .2" (.75 vs. .3 to .5 mm) epichile lobules, and a longer 1.56 versus .116 to.12" (3.9 vs. 2.9 to 3 mm) column."
