Found in Valle de Cauca department of Colombia at elevations around 1950 to 2050 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an erect, thin stem carrying 4 to 6, obliquely elliptic, subacuminate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, terminal, pubescent, 15.8 to 22.92 [39.5 to 54.8 cm] long overall; peduncle 8.6 to 9.92 [21.5 to 24.8 cm] long, provided with 3 to 8, scattered to lax, sheathing bracts, rachis 7.2 to 12 [18 to 30 cm] long, densely many-flowered inflorescence with broadly ovate-lanceolate, acute, paleaceous,twice as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally pubescent, greenish flowers.
This species is similar to the Ecuadorian Microchilus crassibasis but it has a denser inflorescence, flowers with a narrower .32 to .4 > .72 to .56 versus .08 to .1 > .1 to .11 (.8 to 1 > 1.8 to 1.4 vs. 2 to 2.5 > 2.5 to 2.75 mm) labellum hypochile, and a shorter .12 to .124 versus .162 to .192 (3. to 3.1 vs. 4.1 to 4.8 mm) column.
