Found in Cundinamarca department of Colombia in montane cloud forests at elevations of 2350 to 2600 meters as a large to just giant sized, cold growing terrestrial with a very slender, upper half sparsely glandular stem carrying 8, along the basal part of the stem, obliquely oblanceolate, acumoinate, rounded base, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late winter and early spring on an erect, terminal, to [19cm] long, subdensely many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, subcoriaceous, glandular, much longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying small flowers.

"M globosicalcar resembles M fosbergii , but is distinguished by the leaves that are three times longer than wide versus leaves 4 to 5 times longer than wide in M fosbergii and they are rounded at the base versus attenuate towards the base. In M globosicalcar the hypochile is ovate, thickened, the isthmus is not so prominent and the subglobose spur is covered basally by the lateral sepals. In M fosbergii the hypochle is thin, subquadrate, the isthmus is prominent and the saccate spur is not covered basally by the extended parts of the lateral sepals.
