Found in Carchi province of Ecuador at elevations of 1200 to 1250 meters in primary wet forest to pluvial permontane forests as a small to just medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with an erect, sometimes decumbent stem carrying 8, glossy dark green above, paler beneath, obliquely ovate-lanceolate, acute to subacuminate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late fall on an erect, terminal, pubescent, 10.04" [25.1 cm] long, peduncle 7.4 to 7.6" [18.2 to 18.7 cm] long provided with 4 to 5, lax, sheathing bracts, rachis 2.56" [6.4 cm] long, laxly 9 flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acute, as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally laxly pubescent white flowers with a green spur.
"This species is related to M xystophylloides but it differs from it by having broader (up to .802" versus .32" [2.05 vs .8 cm wide]) leaves and flowers with broader (.056 versus .04" [1.4 vs. 1 mm]), acute (not obtuse) petals." Ormerod 2008
