Found in Cauca department of Colombia in riverine forests at elevations around 1700 meters as a medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with a creeping rhizome giving rise to an erect terete stem carrying 7, obliquely ovate-oblong to ovate-elliptic, subacuminate, dark yellow-green with yellow-green markings, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the later spring on an erect, terminal, pubescent, 14.68 to 15.32" [36.7 to 38.3 cm] long, peduncle 7.4 to 11.2" [18.5 to 28 cm] long provided with a few sheathing bracts, rachis 4.2 to 4.88" [10.1 to 12.2 cm] long, densely and sometimes secundly many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acute, twice longer than the the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally pubescent flowers with reddish green sepals.

"This species is quite similar to its Colombian congener Microchilus micayvallis but its flowers have a narrower .068 to .08" versus .08 to .12" [1.75 to 2 vs. 2 to 3 mm] labellum hypochile, narrower .12 versus .16" [3 vs. 4 mm] epichile, and shorter .132 to .14" versus .16" [3.3 to 3.5 vs. 4 mm] column. Another closely related Colombian species is but its flowers have a less fleshy subpandurate (not ovate-rectangular) labellum hypochile and a narrowly obovoid (not obovoid-ellipsoid) spur. A third Colombian relative is Microchilus hetaerioides which has a narrower (.042 versus .07 to .08" [1.5 vs. 1.75 to 2 mm], rectangular (not ovate-rectangular) labellum hypochile, and a wider .16 versus .12" [4 vs. 3 mm] epichile."
