Common Name The Montane Microchilus

Flower Size

Found in Cundinamarca department of Colombia on rocks at elevations of 2400 to 2500 meters as a medium sized, cold growing litho-terrestrial with an erect, very slender stem carrying 7, gathered in the lower part of the stem, densely glandular above, obliquely lanceolate to oblong-ovate, acuminate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late spring on an erect, terminal, 3.8" [9.5 cm] long, racemose, rather laxly, many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, somewhat oblique, sparsely glandular, twice as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying small flowers.

" Related to Microchilus platysepalus and Microchilus cundinamarcae butr M montanus is easily distinguished by the suborbicular-rhombic hypochile which is distinctly wider that the epichile versus in both mentioned the hypochile is oblong-ovate to oblong-ellitpic, and significantly narrower than the epichile. The spur of M montanus is globose and almost as long as wide wheras in the other 2 the spur is rather narrow. The epichile in M montanuis and M platysepalus is cuneate whilke in the new species it is obliquely rectangular." Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2017
