Found in Valle de Cauca department of Colombia without locality as a medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with an erect stem carrying 5, ovate-lanceolate, acute, asymetric, petiolate base leaves that blooms on an erect, terminal, 4" [10 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, somewhat oblique, longer than the ovary floral bracts ands carrying small, greenish white flowers.
"Similar to Microchilus calophyllus (Rchb.f.) Ormerod 2002 but M mutisii differs by the narrowly cylindrical spur versus a spur attenuate from the apical third towards the apex, the obtuse dorsal sepal versus attenuate towards the apex, and the hypochile widest near the base versus widest below the apex. The much extended base of the epichile is not found in any other Microchilus. Another similar species in general flower structure and with an obtuse dorsal sepal is Microchilus dolichostachys (Schltr.) Ormerod 2002 but the new species has an extended epichile base versus not extended in M dolistachys and the longer spur versus shorter in M dolistachys. Also similar to M putumayoensis and M rioesmeraldae but they have a lax inflorescence versus dense in M mutisii." Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2017
