Found in Putumayo department of Colombia in wet colud forests at elvations aroound 2700 meters as a small sized, cold growing terrestrial with a terete rhizome giving rise to an erect, leafy stem carrying laxly 10, lanceolate rarely ovate, subacuminate, edges crisp, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the later summer on an erect, terminal, subdensely pubescent, 12.4" [36 cm] long, peduncle 10.2" [25.5 cm] long, rachis 4.2" [10.5 cm] long, subdensely many flowered inflorescence with broadly ovate-rhombic, subaristate, edges ciliate, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying very sparsely externally pubescent flowers.

"This species is closely related to Microchilus ecuadorensis , but unlike that species it has leaves with crisped edges, smaller floral bracts .28 versus .6" (7 vs. 15 mm long), slightly smaller flowers .18 versus .24" (4.5 vs. 6.0 mm long) with a slightly longer spur .44 versus .36 (11 vs. 9 mm) and shorter column .12 versus .16" (3 vs. 4 mm)."
