Found in San Martin department of Peru at elevations above 1000 to 1050 meters as a small to medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with an erect, terete stem carrying laxly 6, shiny deep green above, obliquely elliptic, subacuminate, margins gently undulate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late fall on an erect, terminal, pubescent, 10.48" [36.5 cm] long, peduncle [26.9 cm] long, provided with 4 to 6 sheathing bracts, rachis 3.8" [9.6 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate-elliptic, acute, longer than than the the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally pubescent, pale yellow orange flowers.

"This species is closely related to Microchilus major but it has longer sepals .26 versus .2" (6.5 vs. 5 mm), a broader dorsal sepal .1 versus .64" (2.5 vs. 1 .6 mm), a shorter spur .13 versus .16" (3.25 vs. 4 mm) and shorter column .1 versus .12" (2.5 vs. 3 mm." Ormerod 2007
