Common Name The Paraiso Microchilus [A Town in the Districto Federal of Colombia]

Flower Size .12" [3 mm]

Found in Districto Federal of Colombia at elevations around 1400 meters as a small to medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with an erect, terete stem carrying 5 to 6, elliptic, subacuminate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late spring on an erect, terminal, pubescent, 10" [25 cm] long, peduncle 5.6" [14 cm] long, provided with 4, scattered sheathing bracts, rachis 4.4" [11 cm] long, subdensely many flowered inflorescence with elliptic-lanceolate, acute, white twice longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally pubescent, creamy white flowers.

"This species appears to be related to its Colombian congener Microchilus dolichostachys because it is a plant of similar height with a laxly flowered inflorescence and somewhat similar flowers. However M. paraisoensis differs in having longer leaves 2.8 to 5.2" versus 2 to 3.2" (7 to 13 vs. 5 to 8 cm), flowers with a broader hypochile .05 to 0.68" versus .04" (1.25 to 1.7 vs. 1 mm), broader epichile .12" versus .0882" (3.00 vs. 2.25 mm) and longer spur.1 to .6" (2.5 vs. 1.5 mm)."
