Common Name The Slim Microchilus

Found in Magdalena and Valle de Cauca departments of Colombia and Zulia state of Venezuela in humid montane forests at elevations around 1200 to 2200 meters as a medium to large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with a decumbent rhizome giving rise to an erect, flexuous, villous stem carrying 7 to 8, gathered in the lower part of the stem, obliquely ellipitic, acuminate, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the later fall, winter, late spring and late summer on an erect, terminal, glandulose-puberulous, to 10" [25 cm] long, provided with a few scatered sheathing bracts, rachis to 7.2" [18 cm] long, densely many flowered infloresscnece with lanceolate, acuminate, shorter to longer than the ovary floral bracts.
"Though Microchilus procerus was first recorded from Venezuela by Knuth (1927), this and later records refer to different taxa (e.g. M. campanulatus Ormerod and M. fendleri Ormerod). Thus the specimen cited above from Venezuela represents a new record for that country." Ormerod 2009
"M procera is easily distinguished by the robust plant, and the form of the lip. especially the undulation of the hypochile margins as well as the petal margins. Although it is worthy to note that the lip and petal undulation is not well notided in herbaruim specimens." Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2017
