Common Name The Puyo Microchilus [A town in Pastaza province of Ecuador]

Found in Pastaza province of Ecuador in forest and virgin premontane for- ests at elevations of 750 to 1000 meters as a small to medium sized, warm growing terrestrial with an erect, terete stem carrying 5 to 6, ovate-elliptic, subacuminate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late winter and early spring on an erect, terminal, pubescent, 12.04 to 18.4" [31 to 46 cm] long, peduncle 6.8 to 7.6" [17 to 19 cm] long, provided with 5 to 7 sheathing bracts, rachis 4 to 10.8" [10 to 27 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate-elliptic, subacuminate, longer than the the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally pubescent, cream, greenish or greenish white flowers.

"This species is related to Microchilus hetaerioides from Colombia but it differs from that in its longer inflorescence peduncle 6.8 to 7.6 versus 2.8" (17 to 19 vs. 7 cm), flowers with a shorter spur .12 versus.14" (3 vs. 3.5 mm) and labellum with a smaller epichile .12 to .128 versus .16" (3.0-3.2 vs. 4 mm) wide."
