Found in Antioquia department of Colombia at elevations around 1650 to 1810 meters as a medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with a terete, purple stem carrying 4 to 5, elliptic, subacuminate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late summer and early fall on an erect, terminal, pubescent, 26.92" [67.3 cm] long, peduncle 11.6 to 14.2" [29 to 35.5 cm] long, provided with 6, scattered sheathing bracts, rachis 12.72" [31.8 cm] long, sublaxly many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally pubescent white flowers
"Microchilus ventosus is closely related to M alzatei, both coming from Municipio Campamento, Department of Antioquia, Colombia. However, M. ventosus differs from M. alzatei in having flowers with a broader .078 versus .052" (1.95 vs. 1.30 mm) dorsal sepal, broader .07" versus .052 to .056" (1.75 vs. 1.3 to 1.4 mm) lateral sepals, broader .056 versus .04" (1.4 vs. 1 mm) petals, and an elliptic (not pandurate) labellum hypochile that is also more suddenly narrowed apically."
