Found in Merida state of Venezuela, Santander, Boyaca, Arauca, and Cundinamarca department of Colombia, Chimborazo province of Ecuador, Junin, and Puno departments of Cusco Peru, Bolivia and Argentina at elevations of 3900 to 4600 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial with 3 to 5, on a short, lateral shoot, elliptic-lanceolate to ovate, acute to shortly acuminte, narrowing below into the broadly imbricating, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late winter and early spring on a erect, to 1.6" [4 cm] long, overall, rachis to 1" [2.5 cm] long, conic to cylindric-conic, very densely many flowered inflorescence with transversly oval, to sub-orbicular, erose dentate above, hyaline, shorter than the flowers floral bracts.
"In a group of species without a rostrate ovary, M paludosa is the only one with an unlobed lip. The lip of this species is deeply cochleate, subglobose to ovoid to orbicular, to elliptic in outline." Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2019
