Found in Colombia and Pichincha province of Ecuador in paramo at elevations of 3000 to 4450 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial that blooms in the winter on an erect, to 6" [15 cm] long overall, completly enveloped by 5 to 6, fistulose, loose fitting, diaphanous sheaths with a blackish brown apex, rachis short to 1.6" [4 cm] long, cylindric, subdensely many flowered inflorescence with a decurved, blackish brown apex, obovate-oblong, obtuse floral bracts and carrying glabrous flowers.

Distinguished from other Colombian speciues bythe entire middle lobe of the lip. which is covered by moniliform hairs in the other species.
