Found in Yunnan province of China in riparian Bamboo forests at elevations around 550 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm growing terrestrial with an ovoid to globose, irregularly warty on surface tuber giving rise to an erect short stem carryiung a single, apical, light green on both surfaces, broadly cordate, glabrous, many veined, apex acute or rounded; petiole-like stalk erect, white, provided with 1 to 2`short tubular sheath near the base leaf that blooms in the later spring without the leaf on an erect, white to green, provided with 2 to 3 membranous sheathing catephylls, 3 to 4.2" [7.5 to 10.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with enclosing the pedicle at base, ovate-lanceolate, apex acute, just shorter than the ovary floral bract with a single, erect, opening widely flower.
"The characters of one flower/inflorescence and labellum lacking spur indicate that this new species belongs to sect. Linervia. Morphologically, Nervilia viridiflora is similar to N. khaoyaica and N. umphangensis by sharing with the characteristic of globose tuber, elliptic-obovate sepals and densely pubescent-lanate between lateral lobes. However, the new species differs from N. khaoyaica by having tuber with irregularly warty surface, cordate leaves, greenish flowers (sepals and petals) and orbicular mid-lobe with two longitudinal ridges extending from base of lip to apex of mid-lobe (tuber with glabrous surface, cordate-polygonal leaves, brownish-beige tinged greenish flowers (sepals and petals) and mid-lobe with a longitudinal ridge extending from the basal third of the lip."
