Found in Guangdong and Hunan provinces of China in humus rich soils in foreests at elevations of 1300 to 1600 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool growing terrestrial without leaves that blooms in the later summer on an erect, to 10" [25 cm] long overall, rachis to 2.4" [6 cm] long, densely 4 to 9 flowered inflorescence with maroon, ovate-lanceolate, outer surface puberulent, acuminate, as long as the ovary floral bracts.
