Found in western California in mixed evergreen forests on fairly steephillsides and on flat terrain at elevations of 400 to 2100 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial that blooms in the later spring through mid summer on an erect, many flowered inflorescence.

Most similar to Platanthera unalascensis but differs in the narrower sepals adnd petals and the twice as long spur.
