Found central and southwestern Mexico at elevations of 2200 to 3100 meters as a small to giant sized, cold growing terrestrial with a leafy erect stem carrying erect ensiform, 3 nerved leaves that blooms on an erect, elongate, cylindrical, several flowered inflorescence

Very similar to P limosa but p volcanica has a lanceolate lip outline while P limosa is oblong-linear.
