Common Name Barber's Pleurothallis

Flower Size .2" [5 mm]

Found in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Ecuador in scrub forests found at elevations of 1650 to 3000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped by 2, thin, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly obovate, subacute, gradually narrowly cuneate below into the indistinct petiolate base leaf that blooms in the later spring and summer on an erect, loose, slender, 3.2 to 3.6" [8 to 9 cm] long peduncle, to 4 to 9.2" [10 to 23 cm] long overall, flexuous, flexible, gradually lengthening, successively single flowered inflorescence arising laterally from the ramicaul and holding the flower well above the leaves.

CAUTION!!! Kew still has this one as a synonym of P aristata but Karremans and S Viera U in 2020 separated it and its synonyms [P gongylodes and P tsubotae]. The mini-miniature sized plant is easily distinguished from P aristata by the white-light ocher flower with fine dark purple blotches, Cypridia" like lip and the serrate petals.
