Found in Santander department of Colombia without a specific locality as a small sized, cool? growing, caespitose epiphyte with thin, erect, acutely ancipitous ramicaul enveloped in the middle by a single bract and another at the base and carrying a single, apical, coriaceous, suberect to horizontal, oval, entire, acute, cordate below with somewhat incurved lobes, into the sessile base leaf that blooms on an erect, arising through a reclining spathe, peduncle 1" [2.5 cm] long, successively single, few flowered inflorescence.

"P. gustavoi can be distinguished from the similar white and rose-flowered species P. nelsonii Ames by the shape of the sepals (ovate vs. linear-ovate); wider dorsal sepal (.212 to.22" [5.3-5.5 mm]vs. less than .2" [<5 mm]); the wider synsepal (.212 to .26" [5.3- 6.5] mm vs. less than .2" [<5 mm]); and the shape of the lip (sub-pandurate vs. triangular)."Mark Wilson 2017
