Common Name or Meaning Jessup's Pleurothallis [American co-collector of the type current]

Flower Size .2" [5 mm]

Found in the Dominican Republic without localisty as a mini-miniature sized, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 thin, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptic-obovate, subacute to obtuse, narrowly cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the late spring on an erect, peduncle slender, 1" [2.5 cm] long, arising from near the apex of the ramicaul, successively single, distantly 2 to 3 flowerewd inflorescence with tubular, half as long as the pedicel floral bracts and carrying flowers with light yellow green sepals, membraneous petals and the lip without color info.

This little species is similar to the numerous taxa lumped into the P grobyi/ P picta complex. P jessupii is distinguished by its smaller habit with narrowly obovate leaves with short ramicauls, and a distantly 2 to 3 flowered raceme borne by a peduncle that reaches above the leaves. The pale yellow and green, membraneous sepals and the membraneous narrow and acute petals as well as the lip that is narrowly oblong and longitudinally channeled between a pair of narrow calli that extend from the base to above the middle. In difference the lip of the P grobyi/ P picta complex is proportionally wider, and shallowly sulcate between callous halves of the lip. The column foot of the same complex has a pair of more or less conspiculous, rounded calli, one on each side of the middle of the foot. These calli are seen on numerous species withn the complex such as P schaferi and P recula. P jessupii has only very slight thickenings on the margins of the column foot and if not looked for they would not be noticed." Luer 2005
