Found in San Jose province of Costa Rica in wet montane forests at elevations of 1000 to 2300 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with terete ramicauls, enclosed by a thin tubular sheath extending from the first to the second third of the ramicaul, and with two basal sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptic, sessile, obtuse, apex emarginate and apiculate leaf that blooms in the late fall to early winter on an apical, arising through a triangular spathe, producing several, peduncle 2.8" [7 cm] long, rachis 3.2" [8 cm] long, racemose, secund, successively few, 8 flowered inflorescence with less than half as long as the pedicel floral bracts.
"P montis-mortense is similar to P dracontea , but can be easily recognized by the glabrous (vs. verrucose and hirsute) sepals, the internally papillose (vs. lamellate) petals, and the ligulate-elliptic (vs.conical-ovoid) lip, which is white with 3 dark purple stripes (vs. diversely suffused and spotted with purple)."Karremans & Bogarin 2013
