Found in Pichincha province of Ecuador at elevations around 950 to 1850 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped by a tubular sheath in the middle third, another below the middle and another at the base and carrying a single, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, slightly acuminate, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on a pair of erect, peduncle 1.2 to 2" [3 to 5 cm] long, arising through a spathe .52" [1.2 cm] long, from an annulus below the apex of the ramicaul, rachis 6" [15 cm] long, simultaneously many flowered inflorescence, with an oblique, longer than the pedicel floral bract and carrying flowers with maroon, glabrous exernally, pubecent within sepals, membraneous petals and a thick lip.

"The plant is large with tall ramicauls with distant, close-fitting, tubular sheaths and the leaf is elliptical and petiolate. Two densely many flowered elongated racemes were produced by each ramicaul of the specimen. The sepals are ovate, acute and pubescent within with the laterals held forward as a synsepal. The petals with minuetly jagged margins emerge with a curved claw to lie parallel to the column. A cavity at the base of the lip is articulates with the free tip of the column foot. Above the lower quarterof the lip is a pair of short, erect lobes that merge into a pair of calli. The apex is thick and rounded with a thick, cleft, longitudinal callus under the surface."
