Found in Cape Province, Natal Orange Free State and Transvaal South Africa in marshy grasslands at elevations of 900 to 2200 meters as a giant sized, cold growing terrestrial orchid with numerous, cauline, oblong-lanceolate leaves grading into obvious floral bracts that blooms in the summer on an erect, terminal, densely many [45 to 100] flowered inflorescence
