Full shade Warm Cool

Common Name The Overlooked Bulbophyllum [refers to this species similarity to B macranthum]

Flower Size 1.6" [4 cm]

Found in penninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Brunei and Sarawak Borneo in hill and lower montane forests at elevations of 600 to 1500 meters as a miniature to small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with 2" [5 cm] between each ovoid, not flattened pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, thick, ovate to elliptic, obtuse, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms arising from the rhizome, erect, 3" [7.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence

Similar to B macranthum but differs in the finer spotting, the coloration of the sepals, the triangular stellida on the column and the thicker lip [see side photo]

Among the Borneo species, B. breimerianum is most similar to B. macranthum and B. praetervisum. It is unequivocally distinct at close inspection because of the retrorse ‘horns’ on the lip, as well as the rounded wings along the lower margin of the stelidia. Among species from elsewhere, B. grandifolium Schltr. is most similar, but this has a lip of .32 to .42" [8 to 10.5 mm] long.
