SUBGENUS Crocodeilanthe [Rchb.f & Warsc.]Luer 1986

Characterized by the one to many racemose inflorecence arise laterally through a usually conspicuous, foliaceous spathe in association with an distinct annulus. The often pubescent within, connate to semiconnate lateral sepals and the membraneous, short, entire, obtuse to rounded petalssurround the lip which can be 1 two to three lobed and often has a pair of calli somewhere near the middleor on a transverse bar, but sometimes this feature is obscure. The column is short with an exposed apical to subapical anther and stigma. The thick shortbase of the column is more or less bulbous amd articulates with the cavity at the base of the lip similar to the "Ball & Socket" articulation in the genus Barbosella. This feature occasionally has the joint more or less adnate and immobile and it can be merely bradly hinged to the column foot.
