Found in Ecuador as a small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte or terrestrial with slender, flattened pseudobulbs enveloped basally bu several distichous, imbricating, lower leafless, upper leaf-bearing sheaths and carrying a single, apical, strap-shaped, widest towards the apex but tapers quickly to an acute apex, tapers gradually below the middle into the elongate, conduplicate, narrow, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring in situ on a basal, climbing, rambling, to 59" [150 cm] long, paniculate inflorescence with the large showy flowers held towards the apex on a few short, widely spaced, spreading, 1 to 3 flowered branches.
