Common Name Buchtien's Encyclia [Orchid Collector in Brazil and Central America 1900's]

Flower Size

Found in the Department of Cajamarca Peru, near the town of Cajamarca at elevations around 900m and was IDed by Stig Dalstrom. This species has often been given synonym status with Encyclia steinbachii but if correctly ID ed is certainly different. The original collection data by Buchtien states that this speecies has similarities to E ambigua or E tachychila and has cylindric pseudobulbs carrying three apical, obtuse, leathery leaves and blooms on a nodding, paniculate, 3' 4" [1 meter] long, loosely flowered inflorescence.
