Found in the Guianas, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia in wet montane rainforests at altitudes of 50 to 1300 meters as a small sized, hot to cool growing epiphytic species from the with fusiform to ovoid, mostly bifoliate, rugose pseudobulbs partially enveloped below by scarious sheaths and carrying 2 to 3, apical, narrowly oblong-lorate, obtuse to shortly acute, coriaceous, glossy, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the late summer and fall on an apical, to 12" [30 cm] long, simple, racemose, loosely few flowered inflorescence with fragrant, waxy, long-lasting flowers subtended by a scarious sheath arising on a mature, pseudobulb with leaves that clasp the inflorescence.
