Found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia as a medium to large sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte at elevations of 1950 to 2930 meters with stout, erect, ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and another close to the middle carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, ovate, acute leaf with a cordate, sessile base and blooming on an arcuate, to 4" [to 10 cm] long, loosely several flowered inflorescence subtended basally by a spathe and with infundibulbar floral bracts holding the simultaneously opening flowers..
