SUBGENUS Pleurothallis SECTION Pleurothallis SUBSECTION Macrophyllae-Racemosae [Lindl] Luer 1986
Characterized by the caespitose to rarely repent habit with well developed ramicauls that are mostly longer than the sessile to petiolate base leaf. It blooms with a single to racemose, terminal, generally pendant inflorescence arising from the base of the sessile leaf or laterally from a short distance below the abscission layer. The flowers are non-resupinate and are basically similar with a free dorsal sepal and the laterals are connate to form a concave to cucullate synsepal. The petals are oblong to ovate, more or less thickened, and are entire and denticulate. The three lobed lip has basal lobes that flank or encircle the column and have a pair of calli on the disc. The glenion is not usually developed. The base of the lip is attached to a thickened, abbreviated column foot and the semiterete column is generally short and carries an apical to sub-apical anther and stigma.
