Common Name Rudolf's Pleurothallis
Flower Size .12" [3 mm]
Found in Azuay province of Ecuador [P lasioglossa] and Pernambucco & Sao Paulo states of Brazil at elevations around 1500 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with a short, stout, creeping rhizome giving rise to an erect, short ramicaul carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical to narrowly obovate, obtuse to acute, tridenticualte, cuneate and obscurely to narrowly petiolae base leaf that blooms in the later spring ans summer on an erect, short, .4 tp .8" [1 to 2 cm] long, successively single, to 5 flowered inflorescence with scabrous, as long as to half as long as the pedicel floral bracts.
"This species may be recognized by its short secondary stem, obovate, obtuse leaves, a short raceme of successive, small, orange and purple flowers with aristate petals, and a papillose, oblong lip with a minute pair of lateral lobes and a pair of rounded basal lobes. The plant appears similar to P funerea from which it differs primarily in the scabrous floral bracts, glabrous flowers, acuminate petals, and minute triangular lateral lobes of the lip. It is more closely related to the Bolivian and Brazilian P brevipes which is distinguished by longer secondary stems, and the absence of lateral lobes of the lip." Luer 1975 as P lasioglossa
