Found in Malipo county of Yunnan Province of China in limestone forests at elevations of 1500 to 1700 meters as a medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with ellipsoid tubers giving rise to an erect, terete stem carrying 5 to 6, cauline, cluste\red in the middle ofthe stem, elliptic, acute to acumiante,leaves grading to 2 to 3, erect,elliptic-lanceoalte, acuminate sterile bracts that blooms inm the summer on an erect, terminal, lax, rachis 8.4 to 9.6" [21 to 24 cm] long, 16 to 19 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, glabrous, acuminate, longer than pedicel and ovary floral bracts.
"Habenaria malipoensis shows affinities with H. falcatopetala and H. wolongensis in having similar bilobed petals, but it can be easily distinguished from H. falcatopetala by its small and orange-yellow flowers, flower bracts longer than pedicel and ovary, elliptic sepals with an awn and side lobes of labellum shorter than midlobe; and from H. wolongensis by its cauline and elliptic leaves clustered in the middle of stem, glabrous stem and rachis, narrowly falcate-lanceolate upper lobe of petals and significantly anterior lobe."
